What is fair market value for a website?

Good afternoon Jim:

I read your recent post concerning the value of a web site with interest,
and offer this insight, I hope it helps:

First, I think it is important to differentiate between the 'Value' of a
site (what someone is willing to pay for it) v.s the Cost (i.e., the number
of hours it took to construct X a reasonable hourly rate).

Given the subject matter of the site in question (a well known Actress) and
all of the potential law suits you might at some time face (for Trademark
infraction) and or Copyright infringement or both, I'd advise you to sell
the site as quickly as possible and avoid any large legal bills that might
be forthcoming.

If the purchaser is truly interested in the content (which I doubt) as they
could have likely done a far more professional job on their own, my gut
tells me they (the purchaser) is solely interested in buying the site due to
its ability to rank on the SE's well.

My bet is once the site is sold they will then replace all of the existing
pages so that they point visitors to a porn site.

Take the $$$$ and run.

Simon Rolfe.
