I manage a large e-mail list for a national magazine which sends a
weekly newsletter, a monthly newsletter and occasional promotional
email. The list is, for the most part, double opt-in.

We use the Lyris Listmanager as a hosted service.

We woke up one morning to find 12% of list moved into the "bad address"
category. All of them AOL addresses.

Here is where using the Lyris hosted service paid for itself. One
phone call to our account rep. They fixed the situation in one day. I
can rest assured that Lyris maintains a positive relationship with AOL
because they send millions of email messages per day and have constant
contact with AOL postmasters. Supposedly all their IP addresses are
on the AOL whitelist.

I highly recommend the Lyris hosted service for anybody who has a
mission critical email function.
