I would have to agree that declaring yourself as an "expert" isn't a
good strategy ... Business owners and decision-makers are more savvy
about the Internet - so you might find yourself knowing less than your
prospects. What you will need is confidence. Local Internet companies
are pretty quick to put down their local competition as the center of
their pitch. It's important to develop products and a service set that
are unique, and will expand your client's reach to a broader local
audience, with the benefit of a world-wide audience. Let your prospects
know that you are dedicated to a local and or regional focus.

Seminars are OK, but again, in a small town you won't find business fast
enough.

Cold calling is essential. Getting aggressive, and hitting the pavement
is absolute key and will often run neck and neck with referrals. Cold
calling keeps the referrals coming, and coming ... If you are only
getting business from referrals, you are losing out and not reaching
your full potential.
