Lead acquisition

Hello,

I have a question for the board.

Have a premium company that is looking to aquire leads
via Internet. I feel email opt in advertising is dead.
Overture and such is to wide a field.

Looking into co-registration...any ideas on how to
"give away free products" on the Internet? Clients
budget is around 10k only.

Any suggestions or comments on what is working today?

Opt In email, banners, pop ups are horrific in my
opinion....has Internet marketing gone the way of the
graveyard? Is the internet just todays electronic
brochures...driven to sites via "normal means"
(telephone, trade shows, offline media)

This client has free giveaways (in exchange for names
of course) internet would seem to be a viable
method...but means of distribution are foggy...any
headlights out there?
