Re: Search Engine Submission/Positioning software
It's not so much that Blogs are a magic key to getting good rankings, or
even to getting spidered more often, it's more that sites that feature Blogs
tend to be the types of sites that Google likes to spider more frequently.
(Google's Freshbot LOVES sites that are updated constantly and sites that
feature blogs tend to have new data showing up on a daily basis...)
Popular blog software like Movable Type and Blogger can produce content
feeds like RSS feeds. These feeds are strings of programming that allow
other Web sites to pick up your headlines and feature them on your site.
When someone clicks on one of those links on another site, it leads the user
back to your site to read the full post. So...if you have an RSS feed (which
are usually associated with blogs) and you do a good job of encouraging
other sites to pick up that feed, you are going to dramatically increase
your link popularity which helps encourage Google to come back and spider
you more frequently.
We use Movable type for all blogging at About.com. I also suggest that my
clients use Movable Type when they wish to implement blog or content
management software on their own sites. I've also heard good things about
Blogger, but have no personal experience with it.
Best of luck to you,
Jennifer Laycock
