I would strongly encourage you to consider an affiliate
program as at least part of your marketing mix. Even
though there are many mortgage companies with affiliate
programs, it can still be a very effective lead
generation mechanism and if done properly, one of the
most cost-effective marketing channels.
If you decide to go the affiliate route, be certain to
do some research and design your program to be competitive
and offer some value to affiliates that others don't.
Higher commissions and longer cookies are good places to
start. Also be sure to invest in one of the top tracking
solutions to ensure that you can attract strong partners
and help assure them that their leads will be tracked
properly.
One of our clients (a mortage company) has gone from zero
to several thousand leads per month in a very short period
of time, through the affiliate channel we set up and
manage for them. I optimized and did recruiting for an
auto loan company and helped them reach 3.2 million a
month in affiliate generated leads as well. So partnering
with other sites through an affiliate program can certainly
generate lots of business and can be a great lead generation
channel.
