Re: Open Directory Project Listings
As a former ODP editor, let me offer a few words of advice.
1.) Please do not submit your site multiple times. All that does is create
more work for the editors. There were days that I would spend over an hour
simply deleting duplicate submissions from my editing queue so that I could
get to editing and reviewing sites. Multiple submissions are simply another
way to slow down the process. Also, realize that just because there is not
an editor listed for you category doesn't mean that someone doesn't watch
over it. An editor can edit in any category listed "under" them. Plus, there
is an entire team of editors that go and work in whatever category has a
backup, so you never know when they'll hit the category you've submitted to.
2.) Always submit your site to the most specific category available. If you
submit to a higher level category, that editor is simply going to send it
down to the appropriate category and then you'll once again go in a queue
waiting to be edited.
3.) Submit to the most appropriate REGIONAL category first. These listings
tend to get reviewed more quickly than the topical listings, so its a good
way to get your site listed in a shorter amount of time. Once your regional
listing is approved, go ahead and submit to the appropriate topical
category. Most sites will be granted both a regional and topical listing.
4.) For specific questions, visit the ODP public forum at
http://resource-zone.com/. Editors answer questions and give advice.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Laycock
