I concur. I made one change in the HTML of my site and went to #1
under "branding expert" in less than a week.

Well said, Brian!
I feel that my responsiblity as a consultant to my clients is to stay atop
the coming changes (when possible) and anything that may change in
algorithm or methodology on ALL of the engines, ALL of the time. I find
it amusing, really, when people (not specifically related to the original
post in this message, necessarily) vent about how awful Google is, or how
they have been "treated unfairly" or "screwed over" by the engines. Hello!
They are BUSINESSES and have every right to change their spiders any way
they want, period. Can that affect their long term success, sure. But,
the bottom line is that NO ONE is ENTITLED to search ranking. And I'm
quite frankly not sure why so many feel that they are, and that the
engines owe them something. The times that I have posed that question,
the answer seems to come that people feel the government or tax dollars
are paying for Google - obviously not the case.
