Re: Google ranking dropped
Amanda,
I think that our exchanges demonstrate that you are an
optimist, and I am a realist.
You must now be bemoaning the poorer results that Google
are showing since they switched back to "normal", given that
you have said that you found more useful rankings during
the changes.
Why don't you ask Larry what really went on, given that you
are a friend of his. I, and millions of others, would really
like to know.
Waiting.
Rob

Actually, we didn't have an issue with either switch, to be honest. We
had good rankings in both. Perhaps, it's because we stay atop these
things on a daily basis. Or, perhaps we're just lucky. I think your
question about me "bemoaning" the changes clearly differentiates me from
you quite frankly - I don't spend my time bemoaning anything. I do my
work and make sure I'm atop of these issues before they happen. I also
take time to manage client expectations regarding search on the front end,
so that there's never a huge shock. And, we always have a paid ranking
emergency plan in place in case of a drop to a client who it's vital to
have in the top spot. So, we're covered.
I'm also selective with the clients I choose to work with. So,
complaining about something as fluid as search ranking isn't something I
find valuable. These discussions, however; I do.
I did forward the exchange to Larry and do hope he gives a response. It
would be nice to hear it straight from the horses mouth.
Optimist - no way. Definitely a realist. Just wanted to speak outward
again about how search is a business, pure and simple and the whining
about how everyone deserves a ranking, especially coming from those that
have poorly optimized sites is annoying. Instead of spending time
feeling as if the sites you manage have some given right to be ranked
first, perhaps you take an honest look at your search knowledge. And if
you're lacking, which a majority of the people out there are, then hire an
expert. Perhaps that will cut down on your frustrations and help keep
your clients happy.
Wow, this is a great discussion! Haven't seen a fueled one like this in
about six years on this list!
