Re: Conversion rates for ecommerce
I don't think there's a such a thing as an average or a good or bad
conversion rate. A lot depends on the pricing, competition, and
traffic sources (i.e. Overture and Google PPC ads will convert better
than traffic from most other sources)
That being said, the best resource I can point you to is the chart at:
http://www.clickz.com/experts/design/traffic/article.php/3362641
It brakes down conversion rates into vertical categories, ranging from 1.1%
(electronics) to 6.1% (catalog) depending on the type of site & product. If
you want to find out exactly what sites the data is based on for each of the
categories, look at the left hand bar at:
http://www.fireclick.com/customers/customers.html

Aaron asked: "Can anybody tell me what the average conversion rate
is for an ecommerce site?"
It does vary based on your market so I did some research and found
this information for you. Here are some average conversion rates for
different online market segments, based on this article I discovered
over at Clickz.
http://www.clickz.com/experts/design/traffic/article.php/3362641
Vertical Market - Avg. Conversion Rate
Catalog - 6.1
Specialty stores - 3.9
Fashion/apparel - 2.2
Travel - 2.1
Home and furnishing - 2.0
Sport/outdoors - 1.4
Electronics - 1.1
All verticals -2.3
