You may want to look at doing a nicely designed site built upon blog
software. Movable Type (MT) from Six Apart is a more powerful data base
driven content management tool than similar solutions we designed and built
for hundreds of thousands of dollars only 4 years ago.

MT costs only $200 to $300 depending on the license. A very professional Web
standards/CSS design would then be placed on top of it for far less than a
typical site that may not look as nice. In addition you will be well
situated to distribute the content via RSS, something the blog software
comes with, when everyone begins to get their news feeds via RSS over the
next year or so.
