MODERATOR NOTE: The Future of this List
This list was started in March of 1996, and for a considerable
period of time functioned as a great brain trust in which
individuals in the fields of online marketing and online
advertising could pool their expertise to help both each other
as well as "non-experts" in a constructive fashion. Frequently
there would be well over ten strong posts submitted per day and
we would have the luxury of filtering out the most interesting
and relevant for further discussion.
Lately this list has languished. I've been uncertain whether
that situation was due to a lack of expertise in our subscriber
base or a lack of willingness on the part of subscribers to
submit interesting questions.
The exercise this week with regard to the ADASTRO web site was
a test for this list. The initial site that had been created for
the company had many known deficiencies, and many others were
pointed out that we had not considered. The comments we received
in response to my posting (both public comments submitted to the
list and comments submitted to me in private) were extensive and
largely constructive. It demonstrated to me that substantial expertise
IS out there and reading the posts that are submitted. The
ADASTRO site ended up going through two major revisions as of
today, and will undergo further changes in the future based on
the comments received. The exercise demonstrated that real
value can come out of the interactions through this list.
So if the expertise is out there and reading this list and
willing to contribute, why are we no longer getting very many
submissions that would lead to substantive debate and discussion?
As we formulate a strategy on how best to move this list
forward and keep it relevant, I welcome your opinions as well.
