Cliff,

In response to your question, I offer my evaluation and opinion.

When you first began this list, you were a pioneer. There were few, if any
such lists addressing the topic of online advertising. The process and
methodologies were in their infancy.

Since that time, as the Internet has matured, so to has the nature of online
advertising. Online advertising takes on many facets, including but not
limited to e-mail marketing, search engine marketing, pay-per-click
advertising, contextual advertising, webinars, etc. Each of this
methodologies has spawned related newsletters, websites, forums, and even
technologies to support them.

I am a case in point. Whereas your list used to be the ONLY list I
subscribed to, I am now receiving over a dozen e-mails per week from lists,
newsletters and forums that are dedicated to the different areas of online
advertising that have evolved (and I must know about). Then there are the
dozens of trade shows and conferences that have sprung up as well.

My opinion is that as the marketplace has evolved, this list is now too
general in nature. Those of us in the business of "Online Advertising" have
evolved to become specialists in one of the aforementioned methodologies,
and are subscribing to information that allows us to keep ourselves abreast
of our craft.

On the Internet, as in medicine, the sheer complexities of the many issues
involved has forced practitioners to become specialists. As to what this
means for the future of this list I cannot tell you.
