Do you hate Google's ranking system?

One of my business partners is so angry about Google's ranking system that
he put up a site at:

http://www.wehategoogle.com

I remember for a while there were some posts on this list both critical and
some in defense of the Google system. I wonder how many people do
sensitivity analysis with their rankings and what your experience is with
respect to making web site changes and then watching the ranking changes.

E.g. here is a quote I saw elsewhere that was interesting.

"However, I have empirical data. I used to go absolutely freakin' nuts with
Web Postion Gold a couple of years ago. I would change things here and there
and either watch my pages go up in rankings or watch them fall off the
earth."

If you can make a change here and there and then have your rank "fall of the
earth," then we are dealing with a pretty arbitrary system. Is that still
the case?
