That is not exactly the point made on the wehategoogle site. Actually, I am
not sure that you cannot get high rankings on other sites for free. The
author claims that his site is getting better rankings on Yahoo.

To my mind the main issue is whether public users get "legitimate" search
engine results when they search for something. Presumably that is the
service being provided. For example, if SE management manipulates search
engine results to place paying customers higher, that is a form of false
advertising, I think.

Another major issue is whether the algorithms being used are effective. The
wehategoogle site author claims that link farms are not being weeded out by
Google's search algorithms.

I have personally done searches using Google where the majority of the
results where link farms. That wastes quite a bit of time.
