I have found that submitting to the Yahoo! directory can actually hurt
my rankings on the Yahoo! search engine. When you submit a website to be
submitted into the Y! directory you must give a title, they often edit
it themselves as well. This title is always very short and often will
not allow you to inject any valuable keywords other than the actual
company name. When it has been successfully entered into the Y!
directory this is the title that the Y! search engine will use in its
algorithm and show in its results. I have actually gone back and had
some of my older listings removed from the directory and immediately my
actual page title appears, with the keywords present in the title, and
my rankings increase.
