Shopping Cart / Sales Abandonment

I'm sure this question has been asked many times, but I would appreciate
pointers to data on barriers / facilitators of making an online purchase,
ie, from putting it in the cart through the process of actually completing
the sale.

A colleague asked me for this data, and I know I've seen this kind of data,
but I can't seem to put my fingers on it.

Specifically, one important aspect is process of a manufacturers site
referring people to dealer or retail sites when the user clicks on a "I
want to purchase this" kind of button. My experience online tells me that
the drop-off rate at the point of redirection must be significant. I'd like
data to show whether in fact that is true.
