Sending Emails vs. Links

Hello, all.

Here is an interesting set of questions.

When a user visits a website and wishes to mention one of its articles to a
friend, would he (or she) rather have the entire piece emailed or a link sent?
Which would the receiver prefer? Which drives more traffic to the website?
How much more likely would the links-only emails be to be flagged as sp*m?
