10 times is a pretty big difference but it might be possible due to caching.
It really depends on how the pages are constructured (static vs dynamic) and
how the users are accessing the site. To validate it, I would first ask the
banner software vendor how they do the tracking. Then look at the
configuration parameters, the web analytics software that you are using to
analyze the log files (even consider analyzing it with another software). If
these don't lead to any where you may consider writing your own scripts for
the banners.

Also it may be worthwhile confirming with your client that they have given you
all the log files. i had a situation like this awhile ago, the site was
replicated using multiple servers and the web master had given me the log
files from one of the servers only!.. I only had found out this by accident.
