Privacy Statements

In the midst of a redesign, the website I represent is being asked for an
improved privacy statement. The problem is how to creat a good one. There are
some legal guidelines, but beyond that there is a confusing amount of variety.
Short and sweet - do visitors want that? Do they even care, as long as the
document looks professional? Would any website be willing to allow a good
privacy statement to be "borrowed"?
