Re: CSS and search engines
Hi,
Thanx so much for your responses regarding www.maati.com. I have tried
to implement most suggestions from experts, and thought I'd respond back
with a few more observations.
Mel:
"Every page should have links to every other page, and the links should
be found within the html code for the page"
Doesn't that defeat the whole purpose of JS menus and CSS led
content...these technologies developed so that u do not have to go
through the tedious and impractical process of placing cross links to
each page of your website on each page.
Anita,
Shouldn't the keywords be consistently and richly used across title,
keyword and description tags? I thought only if the keywords are
different across all these tags that the spiders get confused, not if
they are similar.
Here are the codes of the site:
<title>Organic Products, Fresh food, Organic foods India, Organic
Farming India,Lifestyle food, </title>
The title tag focusses on Organic products, and uses different
permutations of the word Organic
<meta name="keywords" content="organic farming, organic farming in
India, natural food, healthy diet">
Keywords tags I agree can be much more descriptive, but anyways I
thought Search engines will only go through a set number of characters
so I the beginning keywords are more focussed, followed by a few more
generic keywords.
<meta name="description" content="Most comprehensive Indian site on
Organic Products">
I will appreciate any suggestions on how to make it more coherent.
Mark
Thank you for a very logical solution to the problem. I have created a
sitemap and placed a link on the home page of maati.com... I guess it
definitely should work. It was a great solution for a small site like
this which is mostly "hand made" :)
I have also uploaded the site map on another URL : www.organicfarming.in
I guess this page should be indexed pretty quickly because of HTML links
to the site and because the of the domain. What say you?
Trevor
Incorporated the site map. Thanks so much for the suggestion.
Charles
Thanks for some great solutions and very nice links. I'll be closely
following them. I'll also be changing the robots command on the code..
was never comfortable with them any ways:)

My mistake in framing the question. It wasn't "links through CSS".. but
I was rather concerned about whether I could do something more in my
codes/site or delete a few things that possibly could hinder the site's
indexing and positioning in search engines.
Which is why I avoided using flash banners and any java script enabled
codes on the site. However, to maintain consistency, I had to take
support from CSS and a java script led menus. I think these might have
been delaying the rankings. But with some great and simple (I'm not a
techie, just an enthusiast with shallow code knowledge :) ) help from my
friends in the forum, I'm sure I'm more learned now.
Thanks so much guys.. looking forward eagerly to more inputs.
