The return of CPM?

I definitely think that we've come full circle....

I recall that AdWords originally started on a CPM basis before
switching to CPC because of customer demand (and competition
from Overture).

Now that AdWords is unveiling a CPM model, Google will be
forced to educate a lot of advertisers about the inherit value of
a targeted impression and Google will be able to generate
higher revenue than they could on a CPC basis (as I understand
it, the CPM bid has to be higher than the average CPM generated
from the CPC ads being currently served on a Website).

This is also a great for advertisers as we'll be able to finally see
what Website's lurk beyond the "AdSense Network" checkbox that
appears on our campaign settings page... Great Websites will prosper
with this model, but many other sites will not do as well.
