Re: Finding an ad rep firm
>>Going through agencies is a great and inexpensive way to expand
your reach. And it is not a "small website" thing to do.
What about for us "small websites"? Many of the agencies I have looked into
will not take us because our numbers are not quite high enough. But our
numbers are good, we have a niche that is direct and valuable to many
companies. We have been able to sell some advertising ourselves to major
companies. Our current advertiser who bought out most of our space found us
and asked us if they could advertise.
My question is this...Can anyone tell me what kind of contract they have
with their independent rep? I have interviewed a couple guys, but questions
have come up such as if the sales rep develops a relationship with a new
advertiser, and that advertiser comes back in the future with a new
campaign, will the sales rep continue to see commission based on the
residuals. Now, my initial thought is that, yes if this sales rep is still
working for us, the account is his, unless he can no longer work the account
and it gets handed to another rep. But what about if the rep leaves and no
longer sells for us? Should he see residuals and if so, for how long?
Does anyone have a sample contract or agreement they can send me for
non-exclusive site rep for an independent sales rep? Or at least explain
what is standard operating procedure when hiring a sales rep?
Because our website is so industry specific, the agencies that have bought
ad space in the past on our site have told us even at the numbers we have
now, our media space is very valuable to them. We know we can sell the ad
space, its just hiring someone to get out there and do it!! And until we
start seeing some ad income, we can't increase our own advertising budget so
that our numbers bring us into the world of the "big websites".
Any help/advise would be greatly appreciated!
