In Germany I know of some companies using wiki successfully like
Web.de and SAP. And also a car audio equitment producer - all inhouse.

I share your opinion, that wiki's have a lot of potential for communication
and also for prepareing social events.

I am using a wiki for my website http://www.newsbee.de - its in German,
but I guess you get the idea. (not open for public editing so).
