We've had quite a bit of success with the Catfish format (basically,
a floating DHTML ad that attaches itself to the bottom of the browser
window).

In a way, the catfish is much less intrusive than standard pop-ups as
it doesn't launch new windows. As a bonus, no catfish blockers
exist, so the ads can't be blocked. On our own site, we see pop-up
blockage rates of over 50% at the moment, which makes the format
ineffective in reaching a huge portion of our visitors... the catfish solves
that problem.
