Tips to Drive More Quality Traffic

Hello,

We operate a security software website called avg-antivirus.net,
primarily distributing Grisoft AVG Anti-Virus software products though
we've branched out and a few additional complimentary product lines and
created bundles of several of them at special pricing. The website went
online in mostly fully functional form (processing orders automatically
in realtime, etc) in September 2004.

We have spent a great deal of trying trying to improve the relevancy of
our site content with respect to search engine rankings and have
improved our rankings very good in all engines except for Google,
Google seems to be a challenge. Our natural search listings in the
areas we want to be in (at least initially) are showing up on page 1 or
2 of all major engines, again except for Google where we can't even be
found.

We've also spent a great deal of time and unfortunately (wasted) money
optimizing our pay per click campaigns. I've gone through several
different PPC providers though it seems Google and Overture provide the
best return, many of the others haven't been so great with respect to
quality of traffic (Industrybrains, Enhance Interactive). Any tips on
additional PPC providers that might helps us reach our target market
which is fairly broad - consumer, technology resellers, small to medium
businesses, and educational (If you know of anyone specializing in any
of those areas that is helpful as well).

Another new "solution to a problem" we have been working on is affiliate
marketing, which seems to be a very big challenge - affiliate fraud is
certainly a pain, one of our best experiences so far was someone buying
$1k worth of products on a stolen card and immediately requesting their
payout. It was fairly obvious and we didn't pay them, but it was still
a pain (lost credit card processing funds, time, etc). Affiliates also
seem to be promoting their accounts using less savory means online. How
can we find quality affiliates? Tips?

Thanks in advance for any tips/tricks and advice,

Luke Walling
