Managing Banner Ads

Hi All:
 
We are currently refining our site which is live and operational in 35
cities in the U.S. We have some functionality on our site that provides
local information (hence the "operational in 35 cities"). We are a
free-membership based service that provides price-optimized search
functionality for grocery store flyers in major centres.
 
Our revenue is partially based on display banner ads. We are in the throws
of refining our banner ad management system and am looking for ideas, input,
best practices. We currently can display selectively by age bracket, family
composition, gender, allergy profile, and local area and/or store.

I would really like to hear from individuals who have created or are
managing banner ads now as to what might be some interesting or basic
functionality that I could be missing that I need to consider.
