Been down this road as we developed http://www.i-legions.com and I
can tell you that every one of our Branded Communities is hosted by a
third party, including http://www.Frankelbioz.com. It's MUCH better,
because even for small communities, the third party host continuously
updates his whitelisting with the major ISP's, which is the critical
link.

Sending mail from your own server is very risky. If you get one too
many SpamCops - and believe me, lots of people unintentionally report
the mail they signed up for as spam - your entire domain could be
blacklisted, which means nothing from your site will get to those
subscribers again.

Also, resist the temptation to go with HTML mail. It's among the top
five spam alert triggers.
