Purchasing Domain Names and ROI Tracking Software

Hi all! Happy Holidays to all!!

I am wondering if I can get some feedback as to whether it makes sense
to buy **unsold** domain names related to my business. I would have
these domains redirect to my website in the hope of driving more traffic
to my site. Does it generally pay to buy domain for the sole purpose of
redirecting them to your site?

Also, can I get some recommendations on ROI tracking software for
marketing campaigns (specifically for banner ad campaigns, email
campaigns, text links etc).
