Unsold ad space?

Dear friends,

I have an online community whose 40,000 members (professional women)
receive our daily M-F digests, which include a combination of our content
and our members' conversation. The digests are pretty healthy (e.g. busy
and insightful) and we are starting to see some great sponsorship interest
from large companies who are interested in reaching accomplished
white-collar women.

That being said, we have more inventory than we have sponsors, and from
time to time I receive overtures from various people who say they will sell
ads on our digest for a flat CPM. I could decline certain advertisers, they
say, but still, I'm wondering whether anyone in the group has gone this
route and what advice you might have for me. When we sell our own ads,
we know exactly what's going on. It seems unseemly or perhaps less than
faithful to our (choosy) audience to bulk-sell our inventory via third-party
brokers to any old Joe Advertiser. What do you think?

Thanks a million - Liz
