This approach, while worthwhile to a limited extent, presumes that
you know who your prospects are and can find their profiles. But this
approach just doesn't scale when there are 80 million profiles and
there is no way to find all of those that are your prospects,
especially if you are marketing your products and services outside of
your local area.
Ideally, one would like to go to MySpace and tell them that you have
an ad you wish to run on their site, and have it served up on the
pages viewed by people who match certain criteria based on what they
put on their own profile... for example, have your ad seen by people
who indicate in their profiles that they are DJs as they navigate
MySpace. But I would bet that MySpace isn't yet able to accommodate
that kind of a request. I think that they are able to target ads
based on the geographic location of the viewer, but I don't know if
they can do any other kind of targeting.
