Re: Current average CTR for online ads
>Anyone know what the current online ad CTR is - an industry average?
An average is probably a meaningless figure. We've had ads get anywhere from
a .1% ctr to 9% (yes, 9 percent, not point 9).
The difference has to do with how closely an ad is targetted, where it
appears on the page, how big it is, among other factors. As an example, we
had one advertiser get .64% CTR on an ad in one channel on
Businessknowhow.com, and the same ad get an 8.63% CTR in another channel on
the site during the exact same time frame. Another advertiser with the one
ad running in two different channels had .41% CTR in one channel and only a
.19% CTR in another channel. If you averaged those CTRs you'd get about
2.47% CTR - which would be way below the one and way above the others. (The
9% rate I mentioned in the first paragraph was for one of our own house
ads, not an advertiser).
Another thing we've seen is that different ads in the same location and
channel (rotated in on an equal percentage basis) can produce greatly
different results.
In some cases, the only difference in the ads was the color.
Bottom line: test!
