Re: Advertising value on social networks
I knew I wouldn't be the only one interested in discussing Seth's
question. I'm not aware of specific data either because I don't think
anyone's found a way to quantify advertising on a social network yet.
The data I am aware of has more the do with marketing through social
networks. Both Forrester and Yahoo have issued reports to this effect:
-Yahoo's /Engaging Advocates Through Search and Social Media/ (PDF)
-Forrester's /Never Ending Friending, A Journey into Social Networking/
(April 2007 PDF)
I also know of two other documents that are less specific but which give
stats (the Piper Jaffray one is better):
-Piper Jaffry's /The User Revolution: The New Advertising Ecosystem and
The Rise of the Internet as a Mass Medium/ (February 2007 PDF)
-Hitwise /US Consumer Generated Media Report /(February 2007 PDF)
These PDFs are really the best things that I know of out there so far.
