Selling Banner Ads

Regarding the question about selling banners on your site...I want
to comment on the banner/advertising experience that we have had on
our site. When we began we looked at banners as only one of our ten
revenue models for our site. In fact, we did not set prices, but
took bids for the banners. We found that companies saw the value of
our site based on our target audience rather than huge numbers of
hits. Our target is business to business, more specifically
international business. We receive well targeted traffic every
month, so our clients see great results. When we first started to
take banner advertising the clients approached us with banner
requests, we let them bid, and awarded the banner for the month to
the highest bidder. We let them choose which section to sponsor and
we actually made some pretty serious money. Now we are represented
by a banner media company that is bringing in the seriously big
corps. Revenu is great. The company is a good one, and we don't
spend time dealing with banner sales. Depending on your site and
your audience you may want to set a rate card or go out for bid.
By the way, we have had some pretty interesting discussions about
this subject on the International Business Discussion List and
several companies who rep banners were mentioned.
My two cents.
