For a major client site, we find something like:
1 in 2 visitors request a quote or further information
1 in 10 of these buy the product (although this ratio is improving)
Overall, around 1 in 20. This is for a fairly expensive product, around the
$500 mark. We don't promote this site very heavily, so a reasonable
proportion of the traffic is composed of people who have sought out the
specific product type in a search engine or directory.
Hope this is helpful.
Regards,
Leigh.
