"Clickthroughs" are people, hits are not. Do you understand the
difference? If not, then you are not in a position to give advice.
This issue has been explained many times here. The fact that people still
seem unaware suggests that there is enormous churn on the list, and most
posters want free advice...i.e. are not involved in the issue
professionally.
My criticism of Hank has little to do with technology, and everything to
do with revenue models, pricing policy, and meeting and exceeding user
expectations. If you want to advertise on the web, and you do not
understand the difference between "hits" and "clickthroughs"......FIND
OUT. It is a critical distinction for people who pay to place
advertising. For site owners, it is a pain because they need to adjust
their methods to reflect the medium, not their past experience with print
or broadcast.
My current favorite issue (because it is still new and challenging) is
email advertising. Every web site should be supported by a list. Lists
can be supported by sponsors (this one is); and lists can be supported by
users too. The ultimate model in email ads is provided by Juno and
Freemark, who provide their several hundred thousand customers with FREE
email accounts, in return for placing graphic ads into their email.
For folks on a budget, this is a small price to pay, reading ads
(expandable banners---I call them clickable, but that term seems to be
causing too much confusion at the moment here), in return for an unlimited
email account.
