Steve,
Our company had developed Web sites for several large corporations and each
one found themselves in the same predicamant as you. We found that
creating a media kit to pass out as been the best solution. In the packet,
we include a:
Welcome Letter - announcing the new site.
Press Release - giving an overview of the site as well as specific features
and goals.
Finally, and most importantly, show them what the site looks like (there
are still so many people who have never seen a web site). We include
full-color screen shots of several pages on the site. The packets are
simple and "non-threatening" and response we've received has been
tremendous. We've even started sending them to magazines and newspapers to
announce new site launches. It's had a significant impact on our media
exposure.
Hope this helps.
