Aloha...
I've followed with great interest the on-going battle between the "Content
is King" crowd and the "technoblaster bells & whistles" crowd. It seems
that the lines have been firmly drawn in the sand and no one wants to
concede an inch.
After 25 years of creating effective advertising for almost every possible
type and category of product and service, I have come to some strong
conclusions about the Copy VS Design issue.
Words sell. Words get attention, create interest, generate desire, and
produce action. Good design presents the words in a visually pleasing way.
Don't confuse the two. Graphics are only important to the extent that they
are able to enhance the copy and make it more readable, give it emphasis
where needed, and provide a comfortable environment for the words to work
there magic.
If you want to generate sales on the web start using proven direct-response
copywriting techniques. Make compelling offers. Ask for the order. Create
urgency. Ask for the order. Make it easy for the customer to buy. Ask for
the order. Offer strong guarantees. Ask for the order. Use testimonials. Ask
for the order. Offer a bonus for quick response. Ask for the order. Tell
them what their going to gain (the benefits) by ordering now. Ask for the
order. Tell them what they stand to lose by not ordering now. Ask for the
order...ASK FOR THE ORDER!
