The numbers of Web sites, whomever calculates them is never correct.
At one time it was estimate to be 700,000 with 500 new sites a day.

However, these figures (when they were published) did not account for
personnal web pages, web sites that multiple entry points, etc.

As for the 500 per day - I'd say that about a 10% of the real number,
and that's a guess.
