Wow. Yes, I suspect so, too. :-)
But it's actually a clever scheme. There is a float -- I forget, a few
months? -- between the time you register a domain and the drop-dead date
for paying for it. During that float, it's yours in essence for no money
down. After the float, the domain simply goes back into the pool and you
pay nothing. If someone leases a domain during the float, then you've made
pure profit, apart from your time and effort.
Moral: Someday Internet real estate will be priced like any other scarce
resource. Just not today...
