It's more an "invasion of privacy" issue. I agree wholly about the
environmental aspect, but I really do not regard the internet from an
environmental point of view. Does cold calling really work? I mean, I've
only worked in advertising professionally about a couple of years, and we
do not do this. Granted, we do other things, like $50,000 rebates,
cruises and stuff like that... but I think "cold call emails" will
eventually raise the issue of privacy--given the nature of perceived
freedom that the internet now enjoys. My personal prediction is that it
will somehow be regulated. I believe society as a whole (at least the
internet society as a whole) is smart enough to know what to do when it
comes to finding out about something they need or want to buy.
