Well, I went there and registered. I got personalized News in all sections
that one normally sees in catalogs: Business, Politics, Sports,
Entertainment, etc. Noting a word "Russian" in my registration record, they
provided me with weather in Irkutsk, Khabarovsk and Moscow, as well as
with political news on elections, Serbs and Finns. Thanx... Somehow
they also suggested me to ...suck, so I visited suck.com, which
didn't really made me excited. There is also built-in yahoo search there.
Naturally, they provided me with a link to
"Regional:Countries:Russia:News", Literature, Margaux Hemingway
death, other Yahoo's categories, as well as to yahoo's 'current events'.
So, overall, they gave me quite reasonable set of the bookmarks. My
feeling is that my.yahoo.com differs from firefly, which as far as I
understood is going to be yahoo's partner (although the corresponding
pages don't contain any information yet).
If I understand the goals of such enterprice correctly, this is basically
a market research, and like a rat (a fly?) in the giant lab I am free to
surf the Web while my heart rythms, instinkts and desires will be carefully
measured and tenderly controlled with a proper selection of the links.
For example, as a result I read info on Glenn Davis' seminar.
Also, if they are going to sell this to the other companies, this could
be a helpful product, as every registered user obtains a guided tour along
the site, can customize the visit, save time, edit preferences, etc.
Sincerely yours,
Leonid Delitsin
