I agree with Alan that this thread is going nowhere, but I object most
heartily to those who suggest that failure to accept the exponential growth
of email ads scenario, do so out of limited understanding of the Internet.
This allegation is BS.
The fears of exponential growth are "chicken little" style forecasting. I
have no regard for these nonsense prognostications whatever. Not everyone
can or will use email advertising, for many reasons. But for some, it is
the method of choice, regardless of ugly smear campaigns, faulty logic, and
just plain old mendacious envy.
If you use a good filtering email reader properly, you can deal with large
volumes of daily mail from many lists, or individuals, without difficulty,
in reasonable periods of time. I get about half a dozen pieces of what
might be considered spam, per week. Dealing with it is no problem at all.
If it were 10 times greater...it would still be no problem. I only read
messages that appeal to me, and about 20-30% of weekly messages (150-250) I
never even open, much less scan. Based on author and subject, and
list/non-list origin, I can make this choice very quickly.

I have logged 60+megs of message archives in the past year, and I delete
about half the mail I receive. So in my case, you are wrong.

Perhaps the marketers you despise have targeted you......I detect NO SIGN
WHATEVER, of exponential growth of email advertising. It is myth.

No, I doubt it. I have been listening to this same nonsense for years now.
It is always, just about to happen, but never quite does.

yeah, let's kill this worthless cry-wolf song.
