Hello all,
A few weeks back, at the very begining of this list, I posted a
question about Public Access to the Internet. I would like to thak
all of you for all the Information I received. Here ,because of large
requests, is a follow-up.

The City(who still wishes to be nameless for whatever reasons) has
backed out of the project. However, myself (Crytech) and a local
ISP (Western Technology Partners) have picked up the ball and we are
about to score. We are just about to launch a similar project here in
the City of Billings. We have put together a plan to build an
"Intenet Machine" (16MB, 510MB HD, 36.6modem, and a Touch Screen) for
approximately.....$2500.00 The touch screen is an ELO Touchscreen
product that sells for $1800 so that is where the $$ are. What we are
in the process of doing, is getting corporate sponsors( to the tune of
$3,500) to purchase these machines and put them around the City for
public acess. The machine will be encased in a sturdy "kiosk" type of
box with only the touchscreen accessable. We will run Netscape in
Kiosk mode, (how many of you knew that netscape had a kiosk mode?)
and have the soon to be constructed billings.com as the "home" site.
Billings.com will be an all inclusive site for the City of Billings
and the surrounding area, with links to any businesses around the
area with internet presence. We will also be using banner ads on most
pages (not City Govt.) as a means to recoup some of our expenses and
with the direct benifit of all of this being, I get more people
interested in the Internet which in turn will provide me with a few
more clients. All the while providing a much needed service to the
community. I will explain how we are using the banner ad plan in a
future post.
If anybody is interested in doing this same project in their neck of
the woods, let me know and I will forward along any and all info.

JIM
