In th UK a common approach with non-urgent ads in trad media is to write in,
with the camera ready copy and say

"I know you charge #5000 for the back page - and we feel that spot is right
for our product. However we also feel the need to avaluate your publication.
To help us do ths I enclose an advertisement to run on the back page of the
publication. Also enclosed is a cheque for #400. If at any time in the next
three months you are able to ru the advertisement for this price please pay
in the cheque on the day the advertisement appears."

Everyone has unsold space - no one can resist. People say it always works.
