Well, some sites have values that are hard to place directly upon. For
example, one of my clients is a catalog mail-order retailer. Since
they've put up their web site, they've had around 2000 catalog requests
online--they do not want to use online ordering--just send people print
catalogs. Now while most people who get unsolicited catalogs may just
throw them away; my client has the knowledge that these people REQUESTED
to get these catalogs in the mail. So while it may seem that their web
site is a money drain to an outsider, 2000 customers ordering $100 of
merchandise each more than pays for the site well into the year 2000, even
if I quadrupled my maintenance rates. The site has also only been up for
a short time (3 months), which does reflect an inaccurate average.
Something interesting to note is that around half of their catalog
requests have been from overseas--reflecting a unique and unexpected
marketing twist.

Best Regards,

Steve Glover
