I too must join the ranks by saying you haven't looked very far. I have
clients that ARE making money off the Web especially in the Travel area.

All my hotel clients and most of my Bed & Breakfast clients are making much
more than their on-line presence cost.

I have produced web sites for as little as $150.00 and as much as $1,500.00
for these clients. This includes the cost of being on my Travel Guide and
registering with search engines. It doesn't take very much for these clients
to make a profit off the Web.

On the other side of the coin I also have clients that are doing terrible. I
market them all basically the same, yet because of the type of product or
service, they fall flat on their faces. Outside of Travel and computer
oriented markets, the demographics for purchasing directly over the Web just
hasn't materialized yet. I believe it will, but it's still down the road.

Many companies promote their products and services through the Web for a
variety of reasons, and not just to increase direct sales. Public relations,
customer service, and updated product information all play an important role
in an organization's reason to be a part of the Web. Sometimes, just having
a presence on the Web increases the company's credibilty especially with
consumers that are NOT on the Internet. It shows the company is "with it"
and technologically up to date.

Direct sales may be the bottom line for many companies, but we have to
realize there are other very good reasons why a company should have a
presence on the Web. In the long run it does all add up in the bottom line.
