I just spent the better part of the morning reading through the archives,
and I thought it might be helpful for me to simply provide a single message
introducing myself and providing a few links to related web pages I
maintain. I am an attorney in Pleasanton, California, and I maintain my own
web site (http://www.ca-probate.com/) to promote my legal practice (focused
on estate planning, probate & trust law).

I also maintain a bunch of unrelated web pages at my site (see
http://www.ca-probate.com/filelist.htm).

I also maintain a page that lists and briefly describes and compares each of
the "Web Site Banner Advertising Programs" that I know about, including
Commonwealth Network, DoubleClick, Internet Link Exchange, WWIN, Internet
Banner Exchange, Imgis, Narrowcast Media, eAds, Burst Media, WebConnect,
SponsorNet (R.I.P.), Narrowline and CyberGold (the latter two are still
vaporware). (This page is at http://www.ca-probate.com/comm_net.htm). I
welcome any additions, comments, or suggestions for that page.

I currently participate in the Commonwealth Network and Internet Link
Exchange. I have received payouts from the Commonwealth Network for May
($78) and June ($107) and I am on track to get about $140 for July, as my
site traffic zooms upward.

I will probably switch one or two pages over to Internet Banner exchange and
maybe Imgis to test their effectiveness. (Also, although the average
visitor to my page only looks at 2 or 3 pages, Commonwealth Network only
pays for one display per viewer per day view, and therefore I will probably
seek to have "related pages" display different vendors' banners.)

I have also posted an "advertising rates" page seeking direct sponsors for
individual pages, asking two cents per impression (e.g. $20 per 1,000) but I
have had no interest yet. (http://www.ca-probate.com/adrates.htm).

Personally, I think that over time, the "correct" price for internet
advertising will be in the "mil" range (e.g. one or two tenths of a cent per
impression) for generic advertising like Commonwealth Network and Internet
Link Exchange. I also think that for advertisers who advertise on relevant
sites (e.g. if a vendor with a Caller ID product line bought an ad on my
Caller ID page at http://www.ca-probate.com/callerid.htm) the trend will be
to pay based on click-throughs instead of banner displays.

Finally, I have posted a series of pages about Junk Email, including "AOL
Profits from its Deliberate Indifference to Junk Email and Chain Letters"
(http://www.ca-probate.com/aol_junk.htm); that page includes links to seven
more pages about specific junk email campaigns, including
Cyber Promotions / Promo Enterprises (http://www.ca-probate.com/cyberpro.htm),
Business Link (http://www.ca-probate.com/bus_link.htm),
Frank DeRoos / Global Dynamics (http://www.ca-probate.com/deroos.htm),
Email America (http://www.ca-probate.com/email_am.htm),
Techman (http://www.ca-probate.com/techman.htm),
Eric Ralls / New Horizons (http://www.ca-probate.com/nhorizon.htm),
& child-rape email [Chad Hay / RoachChron_at_aol]
