The FBI Story
While my partner is down in Washington on a minivacation, he took a tour of
the FBI building. To keep him from getting one up on me, I went to the FBI
here in Philadelphia - the Fairmount Bagel Institute. They have leveraged
their initials so that in addition to selling great bagels, they sell
tee-shirts and sweats with FBI AGENT stenciled on the back. Cute.
While we were there, it occurred to me that they could also benefit from
Gillian Anderson's nomination for an Emmy. Perhaps a Gillian support party,
or something along those lines. If you have any good ideas that you would like
to share, send them to me, or to Fairmount Bagel Institute, 267 S. 19th St.,
Philadelphia, PA 19103. They do not advertise an e-mail address nor a
Web-site. So there might be a potential client for you ISPs and Web
developers, too.
Ambulance Chasing or Good Timing?
It occurred to me that there are going to be some unlikely benefactors of the
recent terrorist acts besides the terrorists - the security companies. I
would guesstimate that they are going to be suffering from an extreme
overload of cash inflow to overcome American business' anxiety about safety
in public places and in the air.
As a result, I am starting a campaign to approach the security outfits in my
area with an offer to upgrade their computer systems. The marketing gurus, to
whom I listen, tell me that timing is just as important as knowledge about
the customer.
However, it feels strange to me that I might gain some financial benefit as a
result of someone else's tragedy. Question: is this ethical? [Politicians,
physicians, insurance agents and lawyers need not reply.]
Timing
Along similar lines, I am thinking of starting an internet newsletter
dedicated to marketing timing. I've read a lot about finding customers and
presenting the right graphics on the existing marketing lists, but little
that has to do with the guts of marketing. Timing is as critical as the rest
of the stuff. Why is it ignored?
Do you think there is interest enough in such a newsletter?
