Beth,

As a direct response marketer, I believe your headline is THE SINGLE MOST
IMPORTANT element in your banner. After all, in conventional advertising,
the headline is responsible for up to 80% of the effectiveness of the ad.
I've seen one headline outpull or outsell another by up to 2100% on the
exact same layout and identical body copy!

The best way to write a good headline is to COPY THEM. Look for direct
response ads that tempt you -- that promise a big benefit, and that call
out to your prospective customer. Like: Hemhorroid Sufferers...End
Hehmoroid Pain Now! And then, simply modify them to fit your product or
service.

Avoid curiosity in your headline unless it's combined with news or self
interest. And don't just write one headline, write dozens and test the
best ones. Track your click throughs with different headlines to find the
strongest. You may then be able to use them in your pring advertising as
well.

If you would like more suggestions or some help with your banner ad
headlines, feel free to email me directly.
